User Satisfaction with Reference Services in the University of Lagos Library
Chapter One
1.1 Background of the Study
Reference services are a key function of academic libraries. They provide guidance to students and researchers in locating and using information resources. Effective reference services help users access accurate and relevant materials, improving their academic work and research outcomes (Aina, 2019).
The University of Lagos Library offers a variety of reference services. These include face-to-face consultations, email assistance, online chat support, and bibliographic guidance. Librarians assist users in navigating catalogues, databases, and other library resources. Despite these services, the level of user satisfaction varies among students and staff (Fawole, 2020).
User satisfaction reflects how well library services meet the expectations and needs of users. Understanding satisfaction levels helps library management improve service quality and user experience. Therefore, it is important to examine how users perceive reference services in the University of Lagos Library.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Many users face difficulties accessing reference services effectively. Some may not understand how to use library catalogues or databases. Others experience delays in receiving assistance or inconsistent support. These challenges can reduce user satisfaction and affect academic performance.
Although the University of Lagos Library provides multiple reference services, there is limited information on how satisfied users are with these services. Without this knowledge, it is difficult to identify areas that require improvement. Therefore, the study seeks to evaluate user satisfaction with reference services in the library.

The main objective of this study is to assess user satisfaction with reference services in the University of Lagos Library.
The specific objectives are to
-
identify the types of reference services available to users
-
