The Impact of Information Communication Technology (ICT) on Library Services in Covenant University
Chapter One
1.1 Background of the Study
Information Communication Technology (ICT) has transformed library services worldwide. ICT includes computers, the internet, digital databases, and software that help manage and access information. In modern libraries, ICT improves efficiency, accessibility, and the quality of services offered to users (Aina, 2019).
Covenant University Library has adopted ICT to support its operations. Users can search the online catalogue, access e-books and journals, and utilize digital reference services. ICT also facilitates interlibrary loans, digital archiving, and virtual assistance. These innovations help students, researchers, and faculty members access resources conveniently and quickly (Fawole, 2020).
Despite the advantages of ICT, challenges such as inadequate training, poor infrastructure, and limited internet access can hinder service delivery. Understanding the impact of ICT on library services helps identify strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Although ICT has improved library services, some users still face challenges. Slow internet connectivity, software issues, and limited access to digital resources reduce the effectiveness of ICT. Some staff and students lack the skills to use ICT tools efficiently. These limitations affect usersβ ability to access information promptly and can reduce overall satisfaction with library services. Therefore, it is necessary to study the impact of ICT on library services in Covenant University.
1.3 Objectives of the Study
The main objective of this study is to assess the impact of ICT on library services in Covenant University.
The specific objectives are to
-
identify the ICT tools and services available in the library
-
