Design and Implementation of a Cybersecurity Awareness Training System
CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background of the Study
As the world becomes increasingly digital, cybersecurity threats have grown more sophisticated and frequent. Many individuals and organizations lack adequate awareness of online security practices, which leaves them vulnerable to cyberattacks such as phishing, ransomware, and identity theft (Nduka, 2023). Developing an effective cybersecurity awareness training system can help educate users on identifying and responding to security threats.
Cybersecurity awareness involves teaching users about safe internet practices, data protection, and recognizing malicious activities. An interactive training platform can simulate real-world scenarios, helping learners build practical knowledge and skills. This approach fosters a culture of security consciousness that reduces risks and strengthens digital safety (Okonkwo & Bello, 2022).
Therefore, this study focuses on designing and implementing a cybersecurity awareness training system that educates users and promotes proactive security behavior.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite the increasing rate of cybercrimes, many users remain unaware of how to protect themselves online. Traditional training methods are often ineffective, as they rely on outdated materials and lack interactivity. Consequently, there is a need for a dynamic and user-friendly platform that delivers engaging cybersecurity awareness training to a wide audience.
1.3 Aim and Objectives of the Study
The main aim of this research is to design and implement a cybersecurity awareness training system that improves user knowledge and response to online threats.
The specific objectives are to:
-
Identify key areas of cybersecurity awareness training.
-
Develop an interactive web-based learning platform for cybersecurity education.
-
Incorporate quizzes and simulations for better learner engagement.
-
Evaluate the effectiveness of the training system based on user feedback.
1.4 Significance of the Study
This research contributes to digital literacy and data protection. It benefits organizations, students, and internet users by reducing vulnerability to cyber threats. Moreover, it serves as a valuable educational tool that aligns with global cybersecurity awareness initiatives.
1.5 Scope of the Study
The study focuses on developing a web-based cybersecurity awareness training platform for individual and institutional use. It does not include advanced cyber defense mechanisms or real-time threat detection.
1.6 Definition of Terms
Cybersecurity: The practice of protecting systems and data from unauthorized access or attacks.
Phishing: A fraudulent attempt to obtain sensitive information through deceptive emails or websites.
Awareness Training: Educational programs designed to increase understanding of security practices.
1.7 Organization of the Project
The first chapter introduces the research and its objectives.
Chapter two reviews literature related to cybersecurity awareness and training systems.
Chapter three outlines the system design and development methods.
TheΒ fourth chapter presents implementation results and user evaluation.
Finally, chapter five provides conclusions and recommendations.
