Electronic Resources and Their Influence on Research Productivity Among Faculty Members in Ekiti State University
Chapter One
1.1 Background of the Study
Electronic resources provide faculty members with access to a wide range of information. These resources include e-books, online journals, databases, and institutional repositories. They allow researchers to access current information quickly and conveniently (Aina, 2019). The availability of electronic resources can enhance research productivity by enabling faculty members to gather relevant information efficiently.
Faculty members in Ekiti State University rely on both print and electronic resources. Electronic resources reduce the time needed to find scholarly materials. They also support collaboration through online access to shared databases and digital libraries. However, some faculty members still face challenges in accessing and using these resources effectively (Fawole, 2020).
Understanding the influence of electronic resources on research productivity is important. It helps libraries and administrators improve access, provide relevant training, and support faculty research activities. This study, therefore, examines the relationship between electronic resource use and research output among faculty members at Ekiti State University.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite the availability of electronic resources, some faculty members experience difficulties in using them. Limited computer literacy, poor internet connectivity, and insufficient training reduce the effectiveness of these resources. Some faculty members also depend heavily on print materials, which may delay research progress.
These challenges may limit research productivity. Without efficient access to current information, faculty members may struggle to publish high-quality research or complete academic projects on time. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate how electronic resources influence research productivity and identify ways to enhance their use.
1.3 Objectives of the Study
The main objective of this study is to assess the influence of electronic resources on research productivity among faculty members in Ekiti State University.
The specific objectives are to
-
identify the types of electronic resources available to faculty members
-
determine the level of use of these resources
-
examine the effect of electronic resources on research productivity
-
identify challenges faculty members face when using electronic resources
1.4 Research Questions
The study seeks to answer the following questions
-
What types of electronic resources are available to faculty members
-
What is the level of use of these resources
-
How do electronic resources affect research productivity
-
What challenges do faculty members face when using electronic resources
1.5 Significance of the Study
This study will provide insights for library management on how to enhance access to electronic resources. It will help administrators allocate resources effectively to support research. Faculty members will benefit by learning strategies to use electronic resources more efficiently. The study will also contribute to the academic literature on digital resource utilization and research productivity in universities.
1.6 Scope of the Study
This study focuses on faculty members in Ekiti State University. It examines the use of electronic resources and their influence on research productivity. The study also considers challenges faced when using electronic materials. It does not cover undergraduate or postgraduate students.
1.7 Definition of Key Terms
